You can now control your Sonos speakers through Spotify

Connected speaker manufacturer Sonos has launched its first third-party music streaming integration, allowing Spotify subscribers to control their Sonos devices from within the Spotify app.

In addition to giving Sonos users another way to get music onto their speakers, the integration also allows you to transfer a song from headphones to a speaker, and to share your Sonos system with friends who have the Spotify app (and are on your wireless network).

You'll need a Spotify Premium subscription access your Sonos speakers in the Spotify app. It is available on both desktop and mobile applications.

Sonos anticipate more integrations like this with other music streaming services, but doesn't have any further information on timing at this stage. Pandora has already confirmed it will be working on a Sonos integration.

In addition, Sonos' latest app update adds Trueplay tuning for the Playbar sound bar. Sonos' Trueplay software is able to analyse the acoustic signature of a room and customise a speaker for the environment it has been placed in. For example, in a particularly echoey bathroom, Trueplay might reign in a speaker's bass to prevent music from sounding overly boomy.

For those not familiar with the company, Sonos builds speakers that connect to your home wireless network. This allows you to control multiple speakers from a companion app on either your smartphone or PC. Multiple speakers can be grouped to play the same song, or alternatively, each speaker can play a different track at the same time. It's almost like Bluetooth on steroids.
